Three Types of People We Meet in Life – A Primer on Building Trading Communities

A Quote from the novel “Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince)” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

We have finally gone midway through our Recruitment Course at the Caylum Trading Institute. All 31 budding market timers have come together with their individual narratives, bringing together with them various goals and aspirations in life. However, we are also faced with the challenge of establishing a stronger, well-connected community for our batch in the remaining four (4) weeks of the program. This event, however, does not only concern us, but probably a lot of the individuals, groups and fellow traders that are coming together in their respective accords. Hence, in this lifetime, I believe that there are three types of people that we meet during our journey: the ones we meet for a reason, a season, and a lifetime.

As we encounter people, there are those people who we meet for a reason. I believe these are the individuals who we have met in the classroom, the trading floor, or even chanced upon the elevator and got into a casual talk about trading, life or anything that resonates to you. They are the ones who will bring clarity on a segment of your life that has been clouded by mundane and trivial matters, or simply needing reassurance on your end. For instance, I have had some conversation with some of my classmates on a trading idea, or some common interest like a game. However, our conversation has not progressed more than that topic. No matter how good the short conversation may be, they are the ones you may not necessarily get to meet again, unless you open your doors to these individuals to enter your “world”.

Eventually, there are also these people we meet for a season. They are the ones who will definitely be in your part of your life, but will be present when you are celebrating successes or weeping through losses and difficulties in life. These may be some of the group mates we have had during our competition and team dynamics. These may be those individuals in the class whom you have grown fond with and has considered as your accountability partner and considers to maintain communication every time you have trading difficulties or those you choose to confide with personal life experiences that deal you a great deal of sadness. They may even be the drinking buddies that show up every drinking spree and just plainly have fun with each other. They are the individuals you have allowed yourself to be acquainted with to a certain extent of belongingness, and shared a common vision, mission or ideal. They are the ones that may have the potential for you to level up these bonds you have established with them to a more meaningful sense of relationship and camaraderie.

Finally, there are these people we meet for a lifetime. They are the ones who you have grown fond with and have seen the best and worst in you. They are people who knows you inside out, and have accepted you for who you are. While we may have started knowing each other here are the recruitment course, these may be people we get to look up to as our lifelong friends. They may be individuals who will become our business partners or trusted accountability partners. Some may even become our life coaches or best buddies. For many of us in the Recruitment Course, these individuals and relationships are yet to “mature” as we progress on our individual and collective trading journeys.

As Batch XI progress its quest on trading and building a strong trading community, I always look forward a well-knit, 31-person stronghold of Market Timers by the end of June 3rd week. More so, this 31-person Market Timer-stronghold is backed up by the strongest group of Professional Traders and Market Timers that the trading community can hope for. The story is yet to unfold, and we still have four week to write our stories into a beautiful foundational novel that can metamorphose into a legendary story of novice Market Timers who was able to elevate the quality and importance of Trading Communities in every traders’ quest in purposeful and meaningful execution of trades towards their respective life aspirations.
