Kizuna: Valuing the String that Connects Us

Gallup’s Clifton StrengthsFinder Theme: Connectedness

As Week 7 comes to an end, I cross borders and open myself to a larger community than my own group by joining like-minded people in what we probably love the most – Food. I am a believer that we are all somehow linked in one way or another, and we just need to invoke these “threads of fate” to emulate the meaning behind each life event we encounter. Last Friday, the group came about with a Samgyupsal party and I got to know more about my classmates as we uncover each individuals interests and values over food.

Let the buffet, begin!

Probably half of the group intends to apply to CTS Global Equities to become a proprietary trader, and I wish them all the best so that they all make it inside the trading floor. They may have different aspirations and goals in life. However, they are now intertwined with a common desire – to expand their horizon better in the trading profession. Two of them would most likely be going back to their previous “comfort zones”, but I am happy that there are still linkages and opportunities that we can engage with through business development and putting up our own “mini prop trading firm” in the process.

In the seven weeks I have been with the class, I fully understand if they have been holding back information and personalities this is a natural reaction among humans. However, I admire people who can fully open their lives to other without pretensions or fear of reprisal. While we all meet people for a reason, these people who spent their precious three hours with the group over a simple meal means a lot me – that they are capable to extending their own resources and things they value to invest in an intangible resource most people neglect nowadays – bonds.

Bonds is not a static concept nor is a fully assurance that it stays on a positive note. True bonds fluctuate, like stocks, on the upside and the downside. Perhaps, the stories of better established bonds will be up on the future blogs yet to come. For now, I know that these are starting to unfold with the final week coming up.

For now, I am not giving up on every 30 soul that I met in Batch XI. I believe each one of us has their own way of connecting with one another, and I wish to capitalize on that. I firmly believe that there is a way to touch the lives of everyone in the batch – be it in trading or in some other aspect of our lives. While I believe this way, bonds are always a transaction between two individuals. This means that the other party has to first allow that “link” to be realized. Else, the effort to reach out will be futile as we have already shut the other party of the opportunity to open doors to new future realities we may have not even thought of.

How about you? Which strings of “ties” would you strengthen, and which ones would you choose to sever? The choice is all yours to make. Just be wary that your current decisions will definitely change the course of your constantly intertwining distant futures.
